Rtn Alan Williams (Rotary club of Golbornelightshaw) helped to raise
funds for two local charities, Wigan and Leigh Hospice and St Mary's Church
Lowton. He and 32 members of St Mary's church planed to cycle from Lowton St Mary's church to Liverpool Cathedral and return, a sixty mile round trip. The Rev Bill Stalker, St Mary's Church was the official starter and said a prayer for all participants. Other members of the congregation and friends watched and cheered as we all left the car park at 7.00am on 29th June 2008. 'Look out Liverpool here we come' Some younger members, Matthew Williams (9) and a few others opted for the one way journey, to the Cathedral, and return by car, but still 30 miles. Others returned by bike another grueling 30 miles not all down hill. Well done everyone. This year the riders are hoping to raise in excess of £5,000 topping the two previous years.
